Relax And Have Some Fun At Salem Green's Indoor Pool

It may be cold outside but the indoor pool is a perfect way to relax and pretend you are on an island far, far away from the cold, the rain (and eventually the “S” word that most of us dread….snow!).

OK, it may not offer the sand between your toes or the warmth of the sun, but the indoor pool is definitely a great alternative. Swimming is an excellent way to exercise, refresh after a long day, or to have a fun day hanging out with friends. Definitely take advantage of our indoor swimming pool.

Our maintenance team recently replaced the heater so it is perfect temperature, just for our resident’s enjoyment! Rain or shine, the pool is open everyday from 8:00 a.m. -10:00 p.m..

Jump on in, the water is great!

Meet Pieter - World's Toughest Salem Green Resident

How tough are you? Pieter, one of your neighbors here at Salem Green Apartments, is pretty tough! In fact he has decided that to test his mettle he needs to run the Toughest Mudder, and obstacle-filled running event. It's not even your typical Tough Mudder - the Toughest Mudder is the most extreme and, well, toughest, obstacle-laden course the organization does all year. It is a 13 mile course with 35 super-charged obstacles in which the participants try to complete as many laps as possible in 24 hours.

Pieter has wisely been training for this event, which takes place November 16 & 17. The event website cautions that only those in peak physical and mental condition should even think about trying to do this! Part of his rigorous preparation for this race has been raising money for equipment and costs related to the race. If you would like to learn more about Pieter, or make a donation, visit the Facebook page he's set up for this.

According to the event's website, the Tough Mudder events have raised over $5 million for the Wounded Warrior project which supports thousands of U.S. soldiers who return home injured.

If you see Pieter around Salem Green he'll most likely have his running gear on and headed out to train. Give him a friendly wave and a word of encouragement!

Meet Scott, Your New Neighbor!

We would like to introduce you all to your new neighbor. Scott recently moved to our apartment community here at Salem Green. Most recently he was living in Burnsville, and he grew up in Apple Valley, so he knows Dakota County pretty well! Scott has two awesome sons, Tyler (10) and Jacob (7). Tyler and Jacob love animals, playing video games and picking on each other (as brothers tend to do). On the weekends when they are all together they always have a movie night. Scott’s favorite movie is the classic “Goodfellas” but he says the boys have quite a few years until they can enjoy that movie with Dad. When Scott has free time he likes to play golf, watch movies and sleep. Scott said he decided to call Salem Green his new home because he loves how quiet and relaxing it is.

We are excited to welcome you to Salem Green! Thank you for calling Salem Green your new home.

The Heat Is On!

Our maintenance team recently tackled the big task of getting the heat turned on for everyone at Salem Green Apartments. The days are getting cooler and we want to make sure everyone stays warm and comfortable.

Here are few tips to keeping your apartment toasty warm as the temperatures drop:

1. Close Your Windows
The biggest single source of heat loss in your home is most likely your windows. Make sure to check all of your windows and make sure they are closed and locked.

2. Don’t Block Your Registers
Make sure your furniture is kept at least two inches from your heat registers to give them enough room to heat up and let the heat escape to warm the air. Do not let your drapes or curtains cover them either, as they will divert the heat to the windows instead of the rest of the room.

Put Your AC Covers On
3. The covers that you have had stored away for the summer can finally come out of storage and go on your air conditioner. If you have issues putting them up, just call the office and we will send maintenance to take care of that for you.

While you can’t avoid the cold entirely, following these tips will help keep you warmer and give you a nice cozy apartment to come home to. If you are experiencing any issues with your heat please call the office (651) 455-2277.

Matt making sure the furnaces are in order before turning on the heat.

Fall Decorating Ideas

We have had some beautiful Fall days lately. Hopefully you have had a chance to get outside and enjoy it. The leaves are changing colors and we see quite a few neighbors around Salem Green Apartments putting up some festive Autumn decorations.

Autumn Decorations

If you are the decorative type then we would love your help getting Salem Green into the fun of the season. When you decorate your patio or balcony, please keep the following tips in mind.
  • Jack-o-Lanterns are good, spooky fun and we would love it if you sent a picture of your fantastic carving. Please remember - do not place lit candles inside your Jack-o-Lantern. Out of an abundance of caution use battery powered candle lights to keep those gourds looking spooky, and not so spooky that the fire department gets called.
  • Mums the word for fall flowers! Mums is short for chrysanthemums. You can find Fall Mums at the grocery store and garden centers and they come in all kinds of wonderful colors.
  • Wreaths are not just for Christmas, folks! Some retailers sell beautiful harvest-themed wreaths. Or, if you are particularly crafty, you can make your own.
  • Patio lights can help you frame your space, and we have seen some that could fit into your theme of choice, whether you are going for spooky or harvest.
If you are going to be shopping for any decorations be sure to look in the local papers or online  for coupons. Here are two we found for Gertens over in Inver Grove Heights:

Pictures!

After you have gone through all that effort of decorating, you are bound to be proud of your work, right? Snap a photo and share it with the rest of us on our Facebook page and let us all enjoy your creativity.

Totally Fun Flotation Devices

Have you noticed? The leaves are starting to change and it is simply beautiful out today. In fact the weather is going to be great all week long - in the 70's with sun and a few clouds, and no rain. It is the perfect time to take checkout the paddle-boat or canoe from the Salem Green Office and go out on Schmidt Lake.

What a great way to enjoy the fall colors! f you would like to rent the canoe or paddleboat please stop in the Salem Green Apartments rental office and check out the key and life jackets.
These two adventurous residents recently stopped by to take a canoe for trip on the lake.

We have several canoes and a paddle-boat for residents to check out.

J.C. happens to be rooting for the Clemson Tigers. The prize was a $20.00 gift card to Jimmy Johns, plus there were a few extra fun items to help host a football themed party.

Here's a photo of J.C. stopping by the Salem Green office to pick up his winnings!

October Begins Sweet and Ends Spooky

October is well known for it's BIG holiday, Halloween, but did you know there's quite a few other notable days throughout the month?

October 5 - World Teacher’s Day
World Teacher’s Day was created by Federico Mayor, in 1993. Take time today to show your son's or daughter’s teacher your appreciation. Whether it be an apple or a nice gift, our teachers deserve thanks for all they do!

October 9 - Fire Prevention Day
Fire prevention efforts were sparked by the Great Chicago fire in 1871. Take time today to reevaluate your fire prevention measures and practice a home fire drill. Do you and your family have a plan on what to do if there is a fire in your home? If you don’t have a plan, today is a perfect day to make one.

October 11 - Take Your Teddy Bear to Work Day
Yes! It’s an excuse to feel like a kid, even for just a moment!

October 16 - Boss’ Day
Celebrate your boss today! Let them know how much you appreciate them!

October 19 - Sweetest Day
Originally founded by Herbert Birch Kingston in 1922, Herbert wanted to bring happiness to orphans and under-privileged and began this holiday by giving them small gifts and candy. Today, this holiday is celebrated almost as a second Valentine’s Day by actions of giving flowers and candy to loved ones. However, in addition to showing your love to people close to you, use this day as Herbert intended and show kindness to those in need.

October 31 - Halloween
Trick or Treat! That’s right; it’s that time of year where little ghosts and goblins roam the neighborhood seeking sweet treats. Some local businesses have indoor trick or treating available; check your local listings to see if there are any in your area. Have a safe and happy Halloween!
