New Resident Loves Cooking Up A Storm - Meet Ron

We would like to introduce you to one of your new neighbors here at Salem Green - please join us in extending Ron a big welcome! Ron recently moved to Salem Green with his roommate, Chris. Ron enjoys cooking and baking in his professional and personal time. He recently enrolled in a 48 week program at Le Cordon Bleu to be certified in culinary arts.

Ron prefers cooking over baking. His favor meal to cook (and eat!) is veal blanquette, which is essentially stewed veal, with a pommes puree, which is a silky smooth mixture of potatoes, salt, pepper, butter, and cream.

His favorite chef? None other than the famous Gordon Ramsey.

If you see Ron around please be sure to say 'hello' and welcome him to Salem Green.

CAKE! Oh, and Ron is pictured too! Welcome to Salem Green Ron!

Prepared For Severe Weather? Important Storm Safety Tips.

Were you woken up by the storm that rumbled over Salem Green in the early hours of this morning? There certainly was a fantastic lightning show, along with some powerful winds, rain, and even hail. When severe weather hits, are you prepared and do you know where to go for safety? Having a plan and being prepared is very important, and we want all of our residents here at Salem Green to be safe.

Tornado
There is an important distinction between Tornado Watches and Warnings. In Watches, you must remain alert and plan your actions. In Warnings, you must act!

Severe Thunderstorm Warning means the National Weather Service expects thunderstorms with large hail and/or damaging winds in excess of 57 mph. Frequent lightening is possible. Warning sirens usually do not sound. Be prepared to take cover quickly.

Tornado Watch means current weather conditions could produce a tornado. Children should be inside and a flashlight and radio should be kept handy. Your ultimate safety may depend on the information you receive.

Tornado Warning means a tornado or funnel cloud has been sighted or detected on radar. When you hear warning sirens, move to safety; you should quickly proceed to the garage level of the building.

Power Outage
Power outages can occur occasionally. If your apartment loses power, contact the Rental Office or the after-hour emergency number if you need assistance. Power outages involving non-payment or more than one apartment are the responsibility of the local electric company.

Wildlife Should Be Seen, Not Fed!

Here at Salem Green we often see wildlife around the community; it's one of the scenic perks of our lake-shore property. The wild animals can be cute, although we want to remind our residents and their guests that they should not be feeding the animals. Feeding wildlife can cause problems for both animals and people. Animals who are raised to depend on humans for food may struggle to survive in the absence of that food source when they begin to travel on their own. Plus wild animals that are used to being fed by humans generally lose their fear of people, and this can become dangerous - especially for children.

So, while the wild animals are interesting and awesome, please enjoy viewing them from a safe distance for both you and the animal, and please remember - don't feed the wildlife. Thank you!

School's Out For Summer!

Last Thursday was the last day of school for the Salem Green children. What are our young residents to do with their new-found free time? Well, Salem Green has lots of fun amenities that can be enjoyed with the company of an adult resident. The playground is located in the northeast corner of the property. You will find swing set, slides, tether ball and a basketball court. Stop by the office and grab some chalk.

We also have the indoor and outdoor pools, grilling areas, canoes, paddle boats and tennis courts. For the rainy days you can stop by the rental office and check out a DVD.

Please note that there will be more children out during the day, so please be alert when driving the parking lot. Give them a 'brake'!

So many smiling faces as they kids get off the bus at Salem Green on the last day of school.

These guys are pretty enthusiastic about the start of summer vacation!

Here they come!

Ice Cream, Flags, Fathers, Fishing, Summer - What's Not To Love About June?

June 7 - National Chocolate Ice Cream Day

Well, we don’t really need a National Day to have chocolate ice cream but hey, it’s another excuse to break out a pint for yourself and maybe share with a friend. So go for it!
June 14 - Flag Day
Flag Day is celebrated to commemorate the adoption our national flag. June 14th, 1777 was the resolution of the Second Continental Congress, which adopted the flag of the United States.

June 16 - Father’s Day
Today is the day to celebrate your father or a father-figure in your life. Honor the one who tackled his role as “Dad” and lived it to the fullest. Do something special today for the father in your life.

June 18 - National Go Fishing Day
For National Fishing Day, we hope the weather cooperates today and we can all go fishing! It is a great time to spend by yourself or with family. You can have some fun and catch dinner all at once.  We have some great fishing spots around here so grab your pole and some bait and have a great time fishing today!

June 21 - First Day of Summer
Yeah! It’s finally here! Let’s go to some music festivals and of course get ready for all of the great summer fairs. Some of our favorite summer activities include: eating watermelon and grilled corn on the cob, going to the state fair and simply enjoying the warm weather with some friends.

June 28 - Paul Bunyan Day

The legend of Paul Bunyan dates back to the 1800’s. This legend is believed to originate from French Canadians during the Papineau rebellion of 1837. There are many tales of Paul Bunyan that have been turned into children’s books, including stories of how Paul scooped out the Great Lakes to get water for his big blue ox named Babe. They also say the 10,000 lakes of Minnesota were formed from Paul and Babe’s foot prints when they were wandering through a blizzard.
